Turin and sports: the magic goes on.
After the Olympic games, the World Chess Championship, the Fencing Championship andthe 2007 InternationalUniversity games, Turin is returns as the international queen of sport.
From June 5th to June 7th 2008 the best European gymnasts will challenge one another in rhythmic exercises in order to conquer the continental sceptre.
The logo was designed by no less than Pininfarina, marking a return of the great firm’s passion for sport during this International Year of Design.

A Welcome from the President of the Region
Turin hosts the XXIV European Rhythmic Gymnastic Championship in 2008, at the Olympic Sports Palacedesigned by Arata Isozaki, with an eye on an ambitious project: hosting the 2012 Gymnastics World Championship, an important event which for this choreographic sport is second only to the Olympic games.
Meanwhile, Euritmica – Torino 2008 (Eurhythmics – Turin 2008) is already at work. In 2008, the year of the Architects and Design World Congress,40 delegations from all Europe will arrive. Staggering numbers: 500 athletes, 1000 companions and managers, more than 1000 journalistsfrom every corner of the world accredited to come and report the sporting event, important test run for the Olympic games in Peking.
Euritmica – Torino 2008 (Eurhythmics – Turin 2008) is a totally feminine event, of individual and group discipline, full of harmony and elegance, combined with strength and dynamism, a discipline in which the apparatus used – be it ball, ribbon, Indian clubs, hoop or skipping rope – becomes almost an extension of the bodyitself.
This same union is illustrated by the logo designed by Pininfarina, inspired by the two protagonists of Rhythmic Gymnastics: music and the woman. “A minimal symbol – declares Paolo Pininfarina – that seeks to convey fluidity, grace and harmony. Recognizable in it are the guide-lines of Pininfarina’s style: a search for the purity of form, for the simplicity of line and for an aesthetic ideal that in the realm of cars or household objects, always tries to wed beauty and functionality “.
The European Rhythmic Gymnastic Championship in Turin will introduce to the general public a spectacular sport which is also an excellent basis for sports education which is becoming evermore necessary in our society and in our schools. This observation comes from a firm belief that the culture of sport is rooted in the lifestyle and daily life of everyone.
The city will host to this event in the same spirit that animated the Olympic games last February. The great salon which is Turin will become a huge gymnastics footboard, where Indian clubs, hoops and ribbons will colour the streets of the city centre.
High expectations abound for the Italian Team in Turin, an important test before the Olympic games in Peking. The Italian national team is on a steady rise, having won a Silver medal at the 2004 Athens’ Olympic games, a Gold medal at the 2005 World Championship in Baku, 2 Silver medals and a Bronze one at the European Championship in Moscow.
At Euritmica – Torino 2008 (Eurhythmics – Turin 2008), will they strike Gold?
